Cayo Levantado Resort collaborates with the Eco-Bahia Foundation to implement conservation programs and provide activities to protect our unique island ecosystem.
Our comprehensive conservation programs are designed to protect entire ecosystems—protecting the diverse plant and animal species of the island simultaneously. Additionally, we strive to raise awareness about the environmental impact of human actions, fostering meaningful changes in the habits of everyone who participates.
Contribute to the island’s biodiversity conservation efforts by becoming an ‘INaturalist’ on the collaborative Citizen Science, species identification platform. By submitting photos of the species that you see during your stay at Cayo Levantado resort, you'll help environmental researchers do a better job of understanding the dynamics of the island’s ecosystem and how to protect it.
Thanks to our research programs, Cayo Levantado Resort has already taken big steps to safeguard the island’s natural biodiversity. We’ve identified invasive plants that threaten native species and prompted their removal to restore ecological balance. We have also planted native flora to support local birds, reptiles, and insects. These efforts are critical for the reproduction of dwindling populations—especially of pollinators such as the Monarch butterfly and various other species of butterflies, admired for their beauty and ecological importance.
